What are the subjects I want to explore?

The subject I chose is called hay fever.
I've chosen this subject as I am coming from a medical background. therefore I want to use all the abilities that represent me which are the interest in medical design and the experience I have as a nurse. I also have an interest in innovative design related to textiles, such as exploring new sustainable ways of creating new Biomaterials. I am also considering using biomimicry as a method I wish to explore in my practice and as the last something I've always wanted to be good at is CAD 3D printing. These are the practices I wish to explore for my future practice therefore I felt the urge to set the bar high and finish my unit 4 with the practices I wish to learn and obtain as a strength as a designer.

what do I want to do next?

I've mapped everything out on a website called Miro, I've heard a lot of RCA students use this platform to gather all their thoughts and research together to map this out. I have been trying to use it and up until now, I find is working successfully. I have researched how hay fever works and how it affects the body and why this is an issue. I've also looked up if any other designers did anything with hay fever and I've found non. I've gathered the cause of the hay fever and the effect it has on the body, therefore I thought of making a garment with all the hay fever elements that cause swelling and res itchy skin and mimic this into garments. I divided all the elements with the practice I desired to execute in my unit 4. here you can find the planning I did on Miro for how I want to combine my method practice and my elements of cause to the hay fever.

What is interesting about this proposal?

I have the possibility of exploring the effect hay fever elements have such as pollen, dust, mold, hair, etc, and explore how these elements can be presented as a beautiful lie and maybe it can provide new materials for the outcome. I figured after the research that there is no cure for hay fever but there is only a way to minimalize the symptoms. I wanted to explore freely so in other terms I felt the need of increasing the symptoms with the garment to create an awareness statement that some people suffer from hayfever but they don't know about it. Hay fever comes mostly from dust/textile therefore I am very excited to put this project further.

how does this connect with my research?

My research was about the symptoms of hayfever, what the cause is on the human body and how this can be minimized, my research contains designers using biomaterial and biomimicry to mimic mold or creating textiles with bacteria. I've also looked up clothing brand that focuses on the practical side of fashion. I also have looked up how to make biomaterials and which flowers attract the honey bees the most as the honey bees have beautiful fur that gathers the pollen. I've also extracted a color pallet from the flowers, I've also explored what anti-dust duvets "textiles" work and how they protect us from mites.
